Hi! I am Shannon, hubby is Jason. We were married in 1994 and tried to conceive in Nov. of that year I believe. I just knew something wasn't "right" within about 5 or 6 months. But, we kept on trying and I didn't seek medical help until the fall of 1996. I had a hysterosalpingagram done and it showed my right tube was blocked, left tube was clear. Hubby had abnormal results on his tests. So, we hoped and prayed we would still have a chance. In 1998, we decided adoption would be our choice. In Sept, we submitted our application to a local private agency. Our homestudy was started in Dec. and we were approved in Feb. of 1999. We told the social worker that we wanted a child, we were open to any type of situation....I even remember telling her it didn't matter if the baby was purple w/ green spots
So, on May 5, 1999, we got the call of a lifetime. A birthmother had chosen us to be the parents of her baby due to be born at the end of the month (20th). We then received a phone call on the 19th....the case worker was informing us that she thought it was not happening b/c the birthmother had not responded to any calls nor had she sent back health histories she was supposed to send. We cried and cried for 2 days. On Friday, May 21, 1999, at approx. 10PM, the case worker called. She said birthmother had the baby today, it is a girl, she is acting as if everything is FINE. OMG. I was jumping up and down and called my hubby at work! She also said the baby weighed 4 lb. 11 oz. and they are doing tests. Ends up birthmom wasn't really due for another 6 weeks. She had no pre-natal care until April. There were some complications due to the fact they kept Charissa in the hospital a week. 72 hours is usually the time they have the birthmom sign the surrender. We had to wait until the next Wed. We made the trip up to the city the day before and stayed w/ friends. Then, that next day we met our social worker at the hospital at the appointed time (the birthmom was signing at another location and case worker was meeting us at the hospital after that). We ended up waiting about 30 min. or so, scared out of our minds. She shows up and had a big smile on her face. She said "congratulations mom and dad" and I LOST IT, I cried. I held my daughter within minutes. She was in her own room, in the NICU. She was beautiful and perfect. She was hooked up to all kinds of monitors. We got to sleep at the hospital in her room for 2 nights. I never left her side. I never slept either LOL. I was high on adrenaline. We took her home on Friday, she weighed 4 lbs. 8 oz. at that point.
I will continue my story later about my 2 boys......I have pictures posted on the play room board.
