I have the high risk HPV virus and I was diagnosed with cervical dyplasia in june. I ended up having the LEEP procedure in july. But I didn't know that even with a hysterectomy cancer could return. I would have prefered to have a hysterectomy, but my dr said no. Now I know that the hysto wouldn't have guarentied(sp) no cancer down the road. Thank you for the information.

Hi Becky,
Thanks for the response. I do have another question. Do you know of any forums or support groups for HPV virus (not the warts) or cevical dysplasia. After reading the info it makes me wonder what my future holds with this virus. Any info would be wonderful. Michelle |

Michelle,
hmmm I am not sure if I have any info on that. Have you looked through the helpful links in the front porch or the cancer forum? I am thinking there might be some links there about this topic. Maybe some of the other ladies have some ideas for you. Becky in OHIO ![]() LAVH/BSO 10-99 Becky's Garden www.purevolume.com/rockonml If you have been helped by Hyster Home. Becky and Maryan,
Thank you both for the info. Maryan as soon as I can I will check out the link from you. I posted it in my favs already. I've found a lot of info about HPV and cervical dysplasia, but no support groups or women who have dealt with this on a long term basis. I'm worried because my dysplasia happened so quickly. A normal pap smear in Jan. to atypical and suregery 6 month later. The dyspasia was in the cervical channel also. Michelle |

Welcome to Hysterhome! I did a little digging and found this site: obgyn.healthcentersonline.com/vaginalcervicalhealth/cervicaldysplasia.cfm
seemed pretty informative about a number of things including cervical dyplasia. I hope it is helpful and I am glad you found us! <edit to fix link> Elayne

The rate of false negatives on pap tests is 20-30%, which is why you need to have one EVERY year. It's possible that the abnormal cells just weren't found or weren't recognized at the prior pap test. I had a similar thing happen. The rate of false positives is only 1%.
